HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR DJ

Choosing a DJ for your event can be a difficult task.

To start ask yourself what you want for your event and remember it is your event!

Do I Need A DJ

If all you want is music then I would suggest buying a stereo or borrowing one and have your guests bring their favorite discs. You can get by pretty cheap this way. For many events this will be sufficient and it can still be fun.

DJ or Band

If you want more, choose a quality DJ or a band. DJ's usually have a larger selection of music to choose from, but bands are live and are entertainers.

Quality DJ's are also entertainers!

It should come down to what you want for your event and what will make you happy.

What Is A Quality DJ

A quality DJ is a entertainer that provides a show not just music!

They will also help plan your event and offer advice based on their experience to provide a quality show.

Always ask questions!

Questions to Ask

Do you interact with the crowd?

What type of things do you do?

Can I pick what I want?

Can I ask for special things to be done?

How many songs will you have with you?

Can I pick what type of music you play?

Can my guests make requests?

Do you have edited and unedited versions?

How long do you perform?

Do you have lighting?

Can I see a picture?

Have you ever canceled a show?

Do you have references?

Am I the boss or are you?

Are there any extra charges?

Is this a hobby or full time business for you?

Their Responses

The responses they give you should satisfy you and give you confidence that your event will be done professionally.

How Much Should I Pay

Pricing will vary depending on where your event is and what you want for your event.

The most expensive is not necessarily the best and the cheapest is not always the worst.

If a DJ is a professional their operating costs are similar to any business.

A professional DJ will have to pay for equipment, advertising, transportation, insurance, quality employees, repairs, updating equipment, backup equipment, supplies and a music library that is constantly growing.

All of this will cost tens of thousands of dollars yearly. If not what corners are they cutting and will that affect your event.

Some DJ's will charge more than a $1000 and others less than $200.

In big cities you will have more to choose from and small towns your choices may be limited. Remember a big city does not mean you will get a better DJ and a small town does not mean a worse DJ.

They are mobile!

So the best advice is to check around and ask a lot of questions. Pick the one DJ that satisfies your needs at the price you can afford.
